Supported-Independent Housing Program

How it works

When you’re almost ready to make it on your own, you can move into our independent housing. You’ll either live in a unit by yourself, or in a unit or house with someone else, with no supervision from our staff at night. This will help you get used to living on your own and build your confidence, so one day you’ll feel ready to start renting your own place.

When you arrive, your Case Manager will help you sign your lease and get settled into your new place. If you’re sharing a house, we’ll try to place you with someone we think you’ll get along with or who shares a common culture or beliefs. We’ll make sure you have everything you need and can arrange a removalist if you want to bring any of your own furniture or household items. There are some house rules and routines, but we’ll help you remember them as you go. There are no drugs or alcohol allowed in our independent housing.

You’ll still be supported by your Case Manager, who will meet with you on a regular basis to make sure you’re well and staying on track to achieve your goals. Living independently can take a little getting used to, which is why we’re always around to give you some extra emotional and practical support if you need it. It’s a great opportunity to develop your skills and learn to live independently, so we encourage you to make the most of this program and the support on offer, to shape the kind of future you want.
