smiling kidsTaldumande provides a range of accommodation options to young people aged 14-22 years on Sydney’s North Shore who are homeless or at high risk of homelessness. All of whom have experienced hardship, the breakdown of family relationships and the supports that underpin their health, education, happiness and wellbeing.

Taldumande focuses on providing stable short and longer term support and accommodation options, encouraging young people to remain within their local communities and achieve longer lasting successful outcomes for their personal goals.

We also provide a range of support services which assist young people and their families through challenging times. These compliment and enhance the accommodation services and increase likelihood of successful outcomes for the young people accommodated.

Taldumande works very closely with many local agencies across government, local government and the community sector to ensure young people are able to access a wide range of services to meet many of the supports that may be required.

Our Accommodation Programs

The Residential Program (5 beds):

A 5-bed emergency and short-term centre in Neutral Bay is supported by 24-hour experienced and trained staff who provide intensive support and individual case management for young people residing at the house. The staff aims to meet a young persons individual holistic needs in a safe and welcoming environment. The house accommodates young people aged 14-18 years.

The Housing Program (8 beds):

Emmett House: providing a subsidised and supported shared housing model to 4 young people aged 16-18 years. A transitional option, with a period of up to 1 years stay, aimed at young people who may not have lived independently previously and therefore require higher levels of support.

Single Independent Unit Model (4 units in partnership with Community Housing Lower North Shore) Aimed at providing subsidised and supported housing to young people aged 17-22 years who experience difficulties in shared housing options.

Our Support Programs and Services

Often young people and their families may require an extensive range of different services to assist in supporting them to achieve their goals and maintain long lasting success.

Taldumande assists by providing services in the following areas:

The Youth and Family Program (early intervention):

Aims to reduce family breakdown and prevent youth homelessness by working alongside families and young people through their challenging times. The program provides direct and practical support to parents / families and young people who want to seek assistance and strengthen their relationships.

Direct support can range from individual support sessions (at office or in the home), advocacy, information and referral, respite for young people, transport, and limited financial assistance.

Aftercare:

Ongoing support and assistance in attaining individual goals for young people who have exited our accommodations.

Brokerage:

Financial assistance to young people accommodated who require assistance in meeting costs of educational, personal development, medical / dental, clothing and counselling expenses.

Project Passion:

Financial assistance grants to young people residing at Phoenix Youth Services, Community Youth Homes or Taldumande Youth Services. Grants are aimed at supporting young people’s passions and goals in the areas of education and / or vocation.

Recreation and holiday activities and/or camps:

Many of the young people whom we accommodate have not experienced these types of activities before. Our staff aim to provide ongoing life skills learning whilst on a range of activities from celebratory dinners (graduations / Christmas / birthdays) to planned holiday camps.

Taldumande endeavours to meet young peoples basic needs (clothing, food, accommodation), practical needs (teaching of living skills, transport, assisting with income, education, recreation, information and employment) and emotional needs (support, reconciling with family or significant others, self-esteem, and personal development).

The range of services listed above allow us to provide a holistic response to the many different needs presented, where Taldumande is unable to assist, staff will work closely with other local agencies and services to ensure the needs are met and accessible.
